17 Oct 10-17 DECEMBER 2022 – WINTER MORNING WALKS
They are of a genuine purity, the hundred poems that Pulitzer Prize winner Ted Kooser jotted down on his morning walks while undergoing treatment for head and neck cancer. They are of crystalline beauty, the songs that composer Maria Schneider composed to Kooser’s lyrics for string orchestra, jazz trio and soprano voice. The phenomenal interplay of poetry and music makes Winter Morning Walks an extraordinary song cycle that more than deservedly won three Grammy awards and also deserves an extraordinary concert format.
It was the versatile soprano Annelies Van Gramberen who came up with the idea of not only letting the audience enjoy music, but also taking them for their own winter walk at the crack of dawn. The soothing tour through the chilly natural beauty will conclude with a performance of the lauded song cycle, for the first time ever in Belgium.
