04-06 MAY 2022 – LOVE MUSIK

The question crops up several times when listening to Kurt Weill’s repertoire: is a classical composer at work here or is there a flirtation with musical? What difference does it make? Weill is something you feel right into your heart.

This is also the case for LoveMusik, an ode to the 20th century composer’s work. The libretto by American playwright Alfred Uhry is based on Weill’s deep, yet complex, love with singer/actress Lotte Lenya. With Lenya as inspiration and Weill’s music as a guide, LoveMusik follows the lives of these fascinating artists.

In this version, director Stefaan Degand tackles LoveMusik’s underlying theme of attraction and repulsion, the fickle dynamics in Lenya and Weill’s love affair. Another theme that is teased out-among others in the stage setting-is about the inner turmoil of characters who are primarily “on the move.”

LoveMusik is an emotional, comical and surprising portrait brought to you by the talented singers of the International Opera Academy and Casco Phil.
