Dmitri Schostakovitch’s best known string quartet nr. 8 was edited by his good friend Rudolf Barschai for string orchestra, under the watchful eye of the master himself. Titled ‘Kammersinfonie’, this work leads its own life and belongs to the standard repertoire of the best chamber orchestras in the world. The work is an engaging and impressive musical remembrance of the second World War victims.

Afterwards, CASCO Phil goes ‘virtuoso’ with the Rococo Variations by Pjotr Iiljich Tsjaikovski, the main character of Russian romance. Written in 1876, it is a spectacular masterpiece with beautiful, immersive melodies and breathtaking technical highlights – only to be performed by skillful cello players as Han Bin Yoon (student at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel).

Also at the programme this evening: Tsjaikovski’s Strings Serenade with the immersive beginning, the blissful slow motion, the famous waltz and the spectacular final. It will be an evening full of beautiful Russian music and virtuosity.
